천국의 섬 (Paradise Island)

 

작업노트

천국의 섬이란 작업은 일산 호수공원을 중심으로 3년동안 진행된 다큐멘터리사진 작업이다. 
 

나는 ‘공원’이라는 공간을 통해 현대인들의 욕망과 가치관, 혹은 시대에 따른 변화를 보여주고자 했다. 욕망은 그 자체로서 형상을 가지고

있지는 않지만, 어떠한 행위들을 통해 구체적으로 표출된다. 그리고 그 행위를 자세히 관찰해보면 그 욕망을 감지해낼 수 있다.

 

이 작업 역시 눈에 보이지 않는 현대인들의 도시에 대한 일탈적 욕망과 그들의 가치관 그리고 시대에 따른 변화 양상을, 공원이라는 공간

안에서 행해지는 그들의 특정한 행위들을 통해 표현하는 것이다.

 

어떤 징후를 드러내는 상황을 순간적으로 포착해 그것이 진실임을 상기시키면서, 관객으로 하여금 늘 스쳐 지나갔던 주변의 일상적인 풍경들을 문화적 풍경으로 다시 한번 들여다보게 만드는 것이다. 그러한 응시의 순간을 통해 그들을 둘러싸고 있는 일상적인 풍경들이 얼마나 함의가

가득한 역사적 풍경일 수 있는지를 일깨워줌으로서 스스로 사유의 장을 만들어내도록 유도했다. 
  
 이 사진에서 보여지는 이미지들은 대체적으로 가장 평온하고 낭만주의적인 풍경으로 묘사된다. 이러한 과도한 낭만적 서정성을 개입시킨

이유는, 인간들의 유토피아에 대한 환상이 현대 문명과 대척점이라 할 수 있는 자연주의에 기대어 있으며, 이것이 비록 집단적 무의식에서

비롯된 것이거나 혹은 미디어가 만들어낸 허상이라 할지라도, 인간들이 마음속에 품고 있는 유토피아에 대한 잠재적인 형상은 어떤 특정한

형태로 존재하고 있다고 생각했기 때문이다.  

 

그것은 늘 불안, 고통, 괴로움이 없는 곳, 푸른 초원, 서늘한 바람, 아름다운 꽃, 반짝이는 호수, 아늑함, 안락함 등의 포근한 이미지로 간직된다. 소박하고 느리고 여유롭고, 때로는 과거에 대한 아련한 향수와 같은 것들 말이다. 

 

자연은 차갑고 냉정한 현대 사회의 경쟁주의와 극명한 대비를 불러일으킴으로서

오히려 현대인들의 도시에 대한 불안과 일탈 욕망, 절망감 등을 반어적으로 사유하게 만든다. 이 작업에서는 이러한 심리적인 유토피아를

과장함으로써 현실속의 디스토피아가 극대화된다.

 

본인은 이러한 스테레오 타입의 이미지들을 오히려 과장되게 이용함으로서 도시를 일탈하고 싶어하는 현대인들의 심리를 보다 극적으로

부각시키고자 했다. 

 

Paradise Island

 

《Paradise Island》is my photographic works as a documentary that has been proceeded at Ilsan Lake Park during three years from 2001

to 2003. 

I have been set my work as questioning toward myself about the action that people have flocked into the park in front of my house every weekend. That is say the desire to free themselves from the city is the reason that the people would have come to the park, as which has offered crowds the romantic and ideal place even ifto

it is artificial, the park is faithfully performing the roll as the paradise to people coming here. And my work based such like this thought had been pogressed. 
  
The society accepted capitalism under much more development based the city gives the excessive stress to people as caused the stronger competition whether it is self-will or another one, and the mechanical civilization to have occupied the human beings with the development of city makes people become alone as separating each other.

 

I think it is natural the contemporaies want to eascape from their city. Such desire of getting away from the city is embodied the specific behavior to finding the nature against the city of civilization, however such like an action looking for the real one, frankly speaking,

is imposed a heavy burden on them who always have struggle against the time and be pressed for money.

 

However there is a place to satisfy ciizen's double desire, that is the park in the city. The nature in the park is only the formative production to be arranged artificially but it is an excellent substitution of real nature to the people in the park. They are in the peaceful and comfortable virtual space called 'PARK', where is perfectly separated from the city and also have dream so happy, romantic and ideal utopia with their own family or lover to awaken self-existence as they have occupied of their own space without paying for money and time

 

Paradise Island (poem)   

                                     

Turmoil
Even though they washed hands in the flowing water,

Between the beginning and the end.
Never turning the last page, for there's no border
We are like an uncomfortable harmony barely continuing.

But I know you are afraid of becoming
You are standing alone
 
Over a scream getting louder and sharper.
One child is flying a kite
on the corner of their heart is so burdensome.

last you have reached here enduring the fierce time like a storm.
So you don't need anything else
Other than the green grass, a piece of soft breeze
And the warming sunray.
 
However it's cruel to stay a little while in paradise,
You should leave an evidence of the Heaven
Before the shadow of each other fades away.

 

 

천국의 섬 (詩)

                                                          인효진

우리는
끊어질 듯 이어지는 불안한 화음과 같으니 
시작과 끝의 경계가 없기에 
결코 마지막 장을 넘겨선 안될 것이다 

* 
흐르는 물에 손은 씻었으나 
귀퉁이에 눌어붙은 마음의 소란스러움이 힘겹고 
점점 높아지고 날카로워지는 비명소리 위로 
어린 아이는 연을 날린다 
홀로 서 있으나 
떠도는 섬이 되기를 두려워하고 
사나웠던 폭풍의 시간들을 견디며 여기까지 왔음을 
내 이미 알고 있으니 
푸른 잔디 위로 떠도는 살폿한 바람 한 점과 
따사로운 햇살 이외에 
무엇이 더 필요하겠는가 

그러나 
잠시 머물다 갈 천국은 잔인할지니 
서로의 그림자가 지워지기 전에 
천국의 증거를 남겨야 할 것이다
